Festival: Live Performances

Wednesday, 14 September 2022
From dynamic musical performances combining acoustic and electronic instruments, astonishing visual plays, to DJs making their live debuts: many ADE Festival events feature live acts of all sorts that invite you to broaden your horizon. This guide helps you navigate through the program so far.

Suzanne Ciani & Metropole Orkest, Melkweg

Following their exceptional performances during the previous five ADE opening concerts, Metropole Orkest takes the stage once again at Melkweg on ADE Wednesday. Each year, the multiple-Grammys winning orchestra invites some of electronic music’s most notable figures, this time Suzanne Ciani. Master and pioneer of sound production, her work has long-standing worldwide recognition. In this one-off performance, she will direct the spatial movement of the speakers, taking us into her world of quadraphonic music experience. For those who want to get more of Ciani, she also hosts a talk at the ADE Pro Conference on her career as a composer.

Jameszoo's Blind Group with Special Guest Dorian Concept + Support Kotokid, Bimhuis

DJ and producer Jameszoo, who has also shared the stage with Metropole Orkest in 2017, performs his newest album Blind together with its surrounding band and the support act Kotokid at the jazz hub Bimhuis on ADE Thursday. Himself describing as ‘naïve computer-jazz on the edge of precision and sanity’, Jameszoo has an experimental approach in his production, intertwining acoustic and electronic sounds while playing with the boundaries of music and different genres. Joining the show is the multi-instrumentalist producer Dorian Concept, whose work is similarly praised for its avant-garde style.

Voices From The Lake + Nadia Struiwigh, Muziekgebouw

On ADE Thursday at the notorious Muziekgebouw, Voices from the Lake will bring their debut album in full to life. The duo was born as a collaborative project between Italian DJs and producers Donato Dozzy and Neel. Their ambient techno takes the audience on a hypnotic and graceful musical journey. Rotterdam-based DJ and producer Nadia Struiwigh joins the stage with her experimental ambient. Loradeniz, an Istanbul-born and Amsterdam-based artist with talents ranging from piano, singing and composing, also joins this peaceful night.

Bru-C & Nia Archives, Parallel
Parallel is a new club in Amsterdam Noord, giving stage to two young talents who are pushing the British music scene forward, on ADE Thursday. MC, rapper, and electronic music producer Bru-C is a prolific figure in the UK underground, collaborating with several acclaimed artists in the scene such as Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Mr. Traumatik and Duskee. His releases have attracted worldwide attention as they stretch the traditional boundaries of UK Bass, Garge and Drum ‘n Bass. Nia Archives is a multitalented producer and creator from Leeds who has been taking the jungle scene by storm at such a young age. Her work is best described as lo-fi jungle, blending hectic breakbeats with warm dreamy vocals that create her unique music style.

Re:master Dance Opera, Tempel

A dance opera in a temple? That’s exactly what ADE, Sandberg Institute, and Opera Forward Festival present with two performances on ADE Friday. Electronic music, the human voice, and theatrical imagination all combined make for a short operatic performance that opens new doors in our minds. 15 master students at Sandberg Institute perform their modern take on opera, guided by the electronic music of COUSIN. The modernist building Tempel Amsterdam serves as the perfect backdrop for this evening, which is part of ADE Arts & Culture.

DGTL Presents: Ben Böhmer (live), NDSM Warehouse

DGTL needs no introduction to ADE. Being one of the largest festivals of the Netherlands, they take over the NDSM Warehouse every year in October. Rising star Ben Böhmer is invited to play his live set stacked with his own music on ADE Friday, which takes you from deep and melodic basslines to hard and cutting peaks in his concert. Since performing live, Ben Böhmer has risen from local success in Berlin to worldwide DJ, taking over big rooms and fields alike the industrial NDSM Warehouse.
