Culture Hub returns with MC Culture at the heart of ADE Saturday
For 30 YEARS ADE, the Culture Hub returns to Felix Meritis on ADE Saturday to trace the scenes, sounds and communities that have shaped electronic music and continue to carry its culture forward. This year’s theme puts MC Culture at the center, exploring the role of the mic across genres and generations, alongside perspectives from scenes around the world, emerging talent and the people behind the music.

For 30 YEARS ADE, the Culture Hub puts a spotlight on MC Culture and the voices that have shaped dance music alongside the dancefloor. Across generations and genres, the mic has been a tool for expression, storytelling and community, with MCs playing a defining role in how scenes develop and sounds travel.
That exchange runs throughout dance music history. Hip-hop and electro borrowed from and fed into each other in the 80s. Two decades ago, grime emerged from the meeting points between garage, dancehall, jungle and hip-hop before reaching far beyond its underground roots. The relationship between the mic and the dancefloor has always been reciprocal, and the same thing happened 20 years ago with grime, garage mixing with dancehall, jungle and hip-hop to spark a genre that took over the mainstream. At generally 140 BPM, it is a very dance floor friendly pace, making it a feature of many UK-based sets.
