Get inside the studio with NGHTMRE and San Holo

Thursday, 08 August 2019
ADE Sound Lab has two particularly exciting additions: San Holo and NGHTMRE join the Studio XL sessions, where producers open up their worthy production habits and tricks to their fans.

San Holo is certainly riding high in the dance world: he's released via Nest HQ / OWSLA, started his own independent record label bitbird, appeared on prime time Dutch TV, and clocked up over 180 million streams (and counting!) for his 2016 track “Light”. And the musical skills that got him there have come from years of hard study and work. Studying guitar at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, he has played in many different bands, in many different styles all while honing his productions skills at the same time. It's these thousands of hours of playing and producing that you can hear shining through in his records, and you'll be able to benefit some of his accumulated wisdom when he brings his kit to Sound Lab and demonstrates what he's about. As his Studio XL demo progresses, he'll be addressing his creative process, including issues like how he starts and finishes songs, how he stays productive on the road, what processes went into creating his Cymatics sample pack and much more.

NGHTMRE, too, has made all the right moves and connections. From Connecticut via North Carolina, now based in LA, he's had a meteoric rise – within a couple of years of his first demo remixes appearing online, he was released on Mad Decent, Circus and OWSLA, working with Dillon Francis and touring the world – often with his friends and collaborators, the duo SLANDER. NGHTMRE worked hard developing his skills at the Icon Collective Music Production School in LA, and puts intense care and attention into every micro detail of his work. His masterclass should be unmissable for anyone who wants to understand how to craft sounds that are to be heard on the biggest speakers at the biggest festivals in the world – and as with San Holo, we'll look forward to hearing plenty of anecdote and insight into his career to date as well as the technical details of his production process.
