The Breakaway Society

A day-long celebration of Hip Hop culture at the iconic Black Amsterdam Museum. DJs, dancers, and MCs unite to honor Hip Hop’s roots, its evolution, and its deep African connections—putting the spotlight back on the essence: the original breakbeat and the Bboy/Bgirl spirit. This event explores Hip Hop culture beyond the surface. Join us and get inspired!

DAY PROGRAM:

14:00 - 17:00 VINYL & TECH MARKET

BLACK AMSTERDAM MUSEUM joins forces with DUTCH DJ CONVENTION for a gathering of vinyl lovers, DJs, collectors, beatmakers and music enthusiasts.

17:00 - 18:00 THESE ARE THE BREAKS

Taking us back to the foundation. From the soul of rhythm to the breakbeats that gave birth to B-Boying, DJing and Hip-Hop culture as we know it. Guided by Rotterdam's own DJ DON DEV, we dig into the records, the rhythms and the stories behind the breaks.

18:15 - 19:30 THE FLY GIRL MEMOIRS

From the dancefloor to the DJ booth, from the streets to the stage, women have always been at the heart of Hip-Hop. THE FLY GIRL MEMOIRS puts the spotlight where it belongs. A conversation about identity, self-expression, breaking boundaries and claiming space in a culture which doesn't always bigs them up.

19:45 - 21:15 FROM AFRICA TO 808’S

A journey to the essence, evolution and global impact of Hip Hop culture. Presented by artists, educator and cultural practitioner BAMBA AL MANSOUR, this immersive lecture connects the dots between African heritage, music, identity, activism and the cultural movements that shaped generations.

21:15 - 21:45 THE BREAKAWAY SOCIETY - AFRICAN DRUM CYPHER

THE AFRICAN DRUM CYPHER let's the rhythm hit em, where the ancestral drums meets Bboy and Girl. Creating a powerful exchange between tradition and innovation. First generation Bboys CARLOS ROCHA and DILLON LEWIS alongside TAZ EYETERNAL Soundbwoy come together for a live cypher experience, celebrating the African heartbeat of Hip-Hop culture.

21:45 - 23:20 THE BREAKAWAY SOCIETY - THROWDOWN

This is where we celebrate rhythm meets movement, where energy becomes expression and the holy spirit of Hip-Hop takes centre stage. THE BREAKAWAY SOCIETY THROWDOWN brings us straight to the essence of B-Boy and B-Girl culture. Raw talent, creativity, individuality and that unmistakable energy of the cypher, with DJ ALL STAR FRESH, DEEJAY IRIE AND DJ DON DEV providing the soundtrack, the floor becomes a playground for dancers to express themselves, exchange moves and break it down to the floor.

23:20 - 00:30 THE BREAKAWAY SOCIETY - AFTERPARTY

BAMBA AL MANSOUR takes us on a musical journey through decades of crates that shaped generations. From African roots to Hip-Hop breaks, funk, soul, reggae, and beyond. Celebrating musical heritage in Blackstereo!

Festival FAQ

ADE Festival tickets are sold individually by the festival event organizers, but you’ll also be able to purchase them through the ticket links on the event pages on our website here.

Not to worry! Make sure to contact the event (or their ticketing provider) you are visiting as soon as possible with as many details about your order; name, email address, amount of tickets, etc. Once they've recovered your order, the tickets can be resent to your email.

Need help to find your event's contact details? Message us at [email protected] and we'll be happy to help.

Most festival events have an age limit of 18+ (and sometimes even 21+ or 23+). These are Dutch governmental rules which state that below the age of 18 you are not allowed to enter a club.

Please double-check the promoter's or venue's website to be sure you can access the event!

Yes, the ADE Pro Pass grants you access to all ADE official festival events. Unless otherwise stated on the individual event page.

Please be aware that for all events happening at Johan Cruijff ArenA, Ziggo Dome or AFAS Live, ADE Pro Pass holders must first visit the accreditation desk at the ADE Pro Pass & Info Hub on ArenA Boulevard before heading to the venue. Please bring both your ADE Pro Pass badge and wristband and allow enough time for accreditation. You can find the Hub here.

For the other Festival events during ADE:
Be aware though that there are over 1,200 events during ADE that you can enter with the Pro Pass wristband and that ADE cannot guarantee access. There is a limited capacity that each venue can take into account for Pro Pass holders. This means for some of the more crowded events you have to arrive early. Once capacity is reached, we will go over in a full-for-now policy. The festival event organizer will decide when and if more people are allowed to go in.

The ADE Pro Pass is the perfect fit if you are planning on enjoying the combination of day and night events. If you want guaranteed access to a particular festival event, we advise you to get a single festival ticket instead.

We dance together, so please be mindful of yourself and each other. We expect an open attitude from our visitors towards other guests, regardless of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion and age. If you see or experience any unwanted attention, harassment or behavior of any kind that makes you uncomfortable, please speak out and notify staff.

Please keep in mind: we love being your annual host, therefore, we would like to ask you to enjoy yourself responsibly.
