Who Writes the Rules? AI, Music Rights, and Building in Europe

Speakers: Anna Neale (Director of Creators Relations, CISAC), Oliver Kruse & More To Be Announced!

In March 2026 the UK dropped its plan for an AI training exception and chose to wait and see. The EU went the other way, with the AI Act's transparency duties now in force and being fought over line by line. Meanwhile the deals are already being signed, hundreds of them, and a coalition of artist and songwriter bodies has started warning that creators can be signed away within them. Around all of this sits a louder argument: that Europe is protecting its culture into irrelevance while the US and China build. This roundtable puts the people actually shaping that outcome in one room: artists, independent and major rights holders, a lawmaker, and a builder, to work through what a fair and workable framework looks like, who governs it, and whether protecting creators and building competitive European technology are really in conflict.

ADE 2026 takes the conversation a step further: with the EU now actively framing AI as part of European strategic autonomy, and the UK's transparency proposals still in motion, what does it look like when the music industry stops only defending its position and starts shaping what gets built?

The session pulls in voices doing the actual work - working operator from UK artist policy (David Martin/FAC), a continental policy voice with real legislative traction, a builder-side voice from an AI company that licenses or has consent-first models (Voice Swap, Eleven Labs), and either an EU institution voice or a rights-infrastructure. Could also possibly involve SoundCloud or Deezer here. Not a tour of positions, a working session on what gets built next.

The time of the session is still to be announced.
