Thazkin (ZA)
Widely regarded as one of the most innovative South African producers of his generation, Thakzin (born Thabang) has become a defining force in the global rise of African electronic music. His breakthrough 2022 single The Magnificent Dance sparked the emergence of 3Step, a hybrid of Amapiano, Deep House, and Afro-Electronic sounds, cementing his reputation as both pioneer and torchbearer of a new cultural movement. Supported by icons such as Black Coffee, Louie Vega, Keinemusik, and Laurent Garnier, his music has resonated across continents, from BBC Radio airplay (Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Pete Tong) to festival stages worldwide: from Ultra, Spring Fiesta, Rocking the Daisies, Bushfire, and Kunye in Africa to Fabric, Piano People in the Park, and AmaFest in the UK; ADE, Montreux Jazz Festival, and Djoon in Europe; and as far afield as China, Thailand, Canada, Colombia, La Réunion, and the Caribbean.
Thakzin positions himself as a vessel for music rather than an ego-driven performer, a quiet, grounded natural leader who values humility, intuition, and the power of community. He sees his creative output as a service: to the ancestors, to his peers, and to future generations. Deeply inspired by spiritual traditions, he approaches music as a healing practice, a tool to elevate mind, body, and soul. This belief in the power of sonic ritual shapes both his compositions and collaborations. With an emphasis on intentionality, connection, and universality, Thakzin allows his artistry to act as a conduit for transformation, reflection, and joy.
