Speaker

Thaniel Owusu Agyemang is a visual storyteller and cultural producer from Amsterdam. His Ghanaian roots and the neighbourhoods he grew up in run through everything he makes, which is mostly about heritage, community and memory. He doesn't see creativity as just expression. For him it's how you research, hold on to things and connect with people.

Around 2021 he got tired of waiting for platforms and started building his own. In 2022 he joined Vandalized, starting in stage management, photography and artist handling and growing into co-programmer. In November 2022 he founded Sankofa Archives, named after the Akan idea of going back to fetch what you need to move forward. It's an archive and a cultural space, with exhibitions, screenings, talks and community gatherings. Since 2023 he has been Creative and Cultural Programmer at Stichting Kazerne

Reigersbos, and from 2023 to 2026 he managed the musician Lamsi. His photography has hung at Museum Van Loon (2023) and the Amsterdam Museum (2024). As Kala Cité he makes films. His first, Home Where It All Begins, premiered at Eye Filmmuseum in March 2025 and later travelled to the Nederlands Film Festival and to Ghana. What he's after, in all of it, is building places where culture isn't only shown but remembered.
