David Ronan (GB)
Dr David Ronan is founder and CEO of RoEx, a London audio AI company building intelligent mixing and mastering tools for musicians, creators and the platforms that serve them. RoEx makes Automix, an AI mixing app for web and desktop, Mix Check Studio, and the Tonn API and SDK, which powers mixing and mastering inside products from partners including UnitedMasters and Music.AI.
David spun RoEx out of Queen Mary University of London’s Centre for Digital Music in 2022, after completing a PhD there on intelligent audio production tools, under Professor Josh Reiss. That research underpins RoEx’s technology: systems that listen to a multitrack the way an engineer would, working out where parts clash and how to make room for each one.
Before RoEx he was Head of Research at AI Music, acquired by Apple in 2022, where his work produced a US patent. He started out in sonar and radar navigation systems, and held a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship from 2023 to 2024.
RoEx reached operational profitability in 2026. Today it is a team of six, serving independent artists and producers directly while licensing its engine to music platforms, and building the company in public along the way.
Outside work he’s into jungle, techno, IDM and hardware, and has recently been losing evenings to a Dirtywave M8.
