Jeroen Verheij, better known as Secret Cinema, is a true pioneer of the Dutch dance scene and one of techno’s most enduring architects. From a small bedroom near Rotterdam, he released his debut record “Sonar System” as Meng Syndicate on Hithouse Records in 1991 — an instant rave classic that put him on the map before he turned 19

Across three decades he has shaped the sound of eras under several legendary aliases — Secret Cinema, Meng Syndicate, Grooveyard (“Watch Me Now”, “Mary Go Wild”), Point Blank (“Meng’s Theme”, credited by Adam Beyer as the track that inspired him to start making techno), and Night On Earth. Releases on Cocoon, Drumcode, EC and his own Gem Records — the label that launched Egbert, Enrico Sangiuliano and others — cemented his role as both producer and tastemaker.

A pioneer of the modern live act since adopting the Yamaha SU700 in 1998, he headlined Berghain, Watergate, Space Ibiza, Womb Tokyo, WIRE, Awakenings and Loveland, exporting Dutch techno to the world with an upcoming release on the 25 years of Cocoon label curated by Sven Väth.

Now, 37 years in, Secret Cinema is reinventing himself again — stepping back behind two Technics as a vinyl DJ, digging deep into his record collection, and returning to the stage with a renewed live show of his own music. Few artists release a rave classic in 1991 and still define dancefloors in 2026. Secret Cinema is one of them.
