Guusje van Deuren (NL)

Speaker (100%, Head of Scripted)

Guusje van Deuren is a Dutch film producer and screenwriter whose work has always grown out of a close relationship with music. She spent much of her childhood playing the violin and, while still young, co-founded a music ensemble and began organising increasingly ambitious multidisciplinary concerts. It was there that she first discovered both producing and the possibilities of telling stories through sound and image.

She went on to study Musicology and Cultural & Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam before graduating in Film Production from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2011. She subsequently worked as a producer for companies including Lemming Film, Waterland Film, New Amsterdam Film and 100%, developing and producing Dutch and international fiction. Her graduation film No Way Back won the CIVIS Media Prize, while van Deuren herself received the NVS Producers Award for emerging producing talent.

In 2016, Van Deuren co-founded The Rogues, where she produced the feature films The Libi, directed by Shady El-Hamus, and I Don’t Wanna Dance, directed by Flynn von Kleist. In 2022 she joined 100% as Head of Scripted. Recent producing credits include This Is Not a Christmas Movie, Twinkle Twinkle Little Elephant and Noël Loozen’s Toutes Directions.

Over the years, her involvement in developing stories has increasingly led her towards writing them herself. She is the screenwriter of the upcoming feature Campingflight to Paradise, directed by Joosje Duk, a romantic coming-of-age film set over the course of music festival Lowlands. Her work as both producer and writer is driven by the same interest that first drew her to music and film: character-led stories in which rhythm, emotion and a strong sense of voice come together.
