Erik Tlaseca (MX)
Erik Tlaseca (b. 1989, Mexico City) uses his own body as a material and a tool to symbolize and question the systems around us. In his performances and installations, he explores what it means to be unable to return an origin, and what remains when a family history cannot be restored. From this sense of absence, he looks at the present across different eras and identities, and invents new stories that reveal the conflicts and contradictions of the world we live in.
Tlaseca was recently a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. He took part in documenta fifteen (2022, with Lumbung of Publishers) and the Jakarta Biennale (2015). His work has been shown at Museo Universitario del Chopo, Mexico City (2026); Krinzinger Schottenfeld, Vienna (2025); SculptureCenter, New York (2025); and P1 Projects, Rotterdam (2024).
