Vincent Moon’s Live Cinema

Live performance by French filmmaker and sound artist Vincent Moon that takes us on a psychedelic trip in the cinema. Moon navigates through his collection of film and audio recordings of compelling rituals, dance and music. Trance cinema to the max.

Multimedia artist, independent film director and sound artist: Vincent Moon is all of the above. He will be bringing together all of these roles during this Live Cinema evening: a live improvisation set, setting off from a collection of some twelve hundred exceptional film and audio recordings; for more than fifteen years, this French artist has travelled the world recording the ceremonies, rituals and cultures of local communities.

Taking this material as his starting point – you could call it a filmic collection of ethnographica, were it not for the fact that Moon’s approach is far from academic – the filmmaker invites us along on a visual cinematographic trip that leads into a state of trance.

Ecodelic consciousness

Moon weaves the recordings and sounds from his vast archive – a collage of immortalised rituals from all over the world, including recordings of unspoiled nature and manifesting spirits – into an enchanting tapestry of sound and vision.

Seated on beanbags, the audience will be able to surrender to what Moon calls an ‘ecodelic consciousness’: a fusion of psychedelic mind expansion and ecological interconnectedness; a profound sensory awareness of our shared destiny on planet Earth.

Vincent's Moon Live Cinema is a unique opportunity to transcend the format of the regular film screening. In Moon’s hands, the film experience is a spiritual voyage of discovery, a ‘cosmic soup’ (Moon) that blends art, ritual, technology and magic.

Eye Filmmuseum

Eye is sometimes called ‘the cinematic memory of the Netherlands’. And in all modesty, that title is no exaggeration.

On the North bank of the river IJ, you can find the film museum Eye. You can go to the movies and much more. Visit exhibitions about filmmakers and light and video artists, browse through the huge film collection and do a film quiz or pop down in the restaurant with breathtaking views over the IJ.
