Dana Lixenberg | Tupac Biggie XXX MAQAM
Join us for the festive opening of the exhibition Tupac Biggie XXX MAQAMon 19th October, as we kick off with a hip-hop block party with music by DJ Cutnice en Don Dev.
Foam, Dutch photographer Dana Lixenberg, and the community centre MAQAM in Amsterdam-West, unite to unveil Tupac Biggie XXX MAQAM in a distinctive collaboration. Central to this exhibition are artist prints of Lixenberg’s famed portraits of Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG. Furthermore, the exhibition dives into the ongoing evolution of these iconic images, which have transcended various mediums – from heartfelt graffiti tributes to playful nods in animations like the Simpsons – and displays images from the eponymous book Tupac Biggie which include contact sheets from Lixenberg’s shoots with the two iconic rappers. This unique exhibition also signifies an innovative blend of the museum world and grassroots community engagement. While Foam brings its renowned curatorial expertise, it is also influenced by MAQAM's neighbourhood-centric approach, resulting in a showcase that bridges high art with community resonance.
This event is free to attend.
