Music Moves: Uit Je Dak (Off the Roof)

Music Moves: Uit Je Dak (Off the Roof)

Music Moves and ADE have collaborated on training music fans to become social entrepreneurs in the music industry. Music Moves aims to make the dance floor accessible for everyone. The MM students have followed a free 4-part Music Moves course in which they have learned the tricks of the trade-in organizing their own music event for people you normally don’t meet on the dance floor: the elderly, kids with special needs, newcomers, or homeless people. This event is one of the eleven events that resulted out of the course!

Organizers of "Uit Je Dak":

"Have you ever come across an amazing performance by a street musician? The kind that brings an entire crowd of strangers together to stop their day and pay attention to this seemingly random display of talent? We sure have and feel that there are stories and songs to be heard by those often overlooked. That is why we have created Uit Je Dak (transl. 'Blow The Roof Off'), a showcase of various acts by homeless and street musicians. To prove that talent and art are valuable regardless of an individual’s financial or living situation.

The crowd will consist of ADE party-goers as well as the regular visitors of Makom. We are bringing two worlds together where everyone is equal, united by their love of live music. The event will be held at a truly unique location, namely Inloophuis Makom from ‘De Regenboog Groep’. Makom is a haven where people can get a meal, a shower, or simply be listened to. While every day the homeless population of Amsterdam is expected to abide by our norms, we are now their guests. Thanks to ‘De Regenboog Groep’, ‘Music Moves’ and ‘Ik ben geweldig’ we have transformed Makom into a worthy ADE stage for all to enjoy.

The event will kick off with a shared meal for everyone (14:00), the performances will begin at 15:00. Featured artists include: - De Dakloze Dichter ('The Homeless Poet'), who is the official city poet of Amsterdam - Club Makom, a funk band with their own twists on your favorite songs plus a few of their own, - Iris, a singer-songwriter with a unique voice accompanied by live instruments, - and more surprise acts of various genres!

Entrance is free but all donations are very welcome as all proceeds will be donated directly to the artists performing. Cold and warm beverages (non-alcoholic) will be sold at the bar to further support the artists. RSVP now using the link below and support the artists who will finally get the recognition that they deserve!"
