Carl Loben (Editor in Chief, DJ MAG, UK), Jessica Wilson (COO, Seven20, US), Samantha Warren (Professor of Organization Studies, University of Portsmouth, UK), Sara Al Hamad (Business Affairs Manager, AIM, GB), Sarah Hildering (Managing Director, Hexagon, NL), Shino Parker (Events & Communications Manager, AFEM, UK)

Five female music professionals and one male discuss research, personal experiences, and concrete action points around gender diversity and inclusion in the traditional music industry, focussing on companies such as the major labels, Live Nation, and the music tech sector. The reality is that everyone has been 'talking about D&I' but not a lot of real progress has been made. D&I has become a PR campaign for many companies but research from Nielsen Music and AFEM indicates no change in gender balance where the actual power for change and money is. Pay gaps generally remain unchanged, with many companies operating a gender pay gap of more than 30% and no real action taken. There is however a lot of PR talk. Sarah Hildering has led two projects; one focussed on gathering data about gender x level of seniority x salary with a trial study carried out last year, and again this year with the help and support of Prof. Dr. Samantha Warren who researches discrimination in the music industry. We will have this year's data available at ADE to share at our panel for the first time. The second project is the Code of Conduct written by Sarah Hildering with Matthew Adell which will also be presented at ADE. The CoC will be adopted by AFEM member companies and hopefully inspire many more companies to follow their example.
