Retaining the Energy, but Losing the Image (2019) is an installation by Vincent de Belleval and Nicolás Jaar consisting of 10 rotating parabolas, reflectors that capture and emit sound and light. They create an ever-changing environment of interlinked reflections and feedback chains. The title alludes to light and sound diffusion, signifying how the energy of the sound and light is kept in its reflections but not in its source. Due to their parabolic shape, the reflectors can also focalize sound, creating hallucinatory surrounding fields. The performance will occur 3 times during the festival on 17th, 18th and 19th of October, from 18:00 to 20:00.
The performance serves as a second act within Chapter 2WO. Jaars first in situ work, a sound and light piece Incomprehensible Sun, can be viewed throughout the whole ADE festival. We recommend booking a time slot to view the installation before or after the performance. You can pay for an entrance ticket online or on site at the reception desk of Het HEM, which is open from noon to midnight. Pre-ordered and paid tickets are reserved until the end of the time slot. At Het HEM, it is only possible to pay with a bank card (PIN) or Credit Card.
