Food Footprint powered by Rabobank

The production of food has a major impact on climate change, usages of water and biodiversity. We need to change our meals to cope with the only planet we have. Transforming our human need for protein from animal-based to plant-based ingredients is taking up speed now. But what next steps can event organizers take to offer meals within the limits of the planet and what are the limits?

Together with researchers, the Swedish WWF have calculated how much greenhouse gases a meal may emit in order for us to achieve the goal of the Paris Agreement and feed all world citizens. The outcome is 0.4 KG CO2 for breakfast and 0.5 KG CO2 for lunch or dinner. The concept is called One Planet Plate. But in all fairness, most people won’t have any feeling what these numbers mean on their plate. Together with this panel you will find out.

Three festivals in Europe experimented this year with apps to calculate the carbon footprint of the festival dishes, and challenged themselves to create dishes with a lower CO2 impact and communicated this towards their audiences in different ways. In this panel we will showcase their best-practice and talk about the insights and next steps to be taken in order to offer food to our audiences within the limits of the earth.
