100 Years Theremin

Because in 2019 it is 100 years ago the first electronic musical instrument was invented, Allard Krijger will present this instrument in a specially for the Amsterdam Dance Event developed presentation.

Allard Krijger is an independent multidisciplinary artist from the Netherlands, Eindhoven, who is nearly always operating under the radar. He is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, innovator, organizer (Modulab Eindhoven) video artist, writer of fantasy and Science Fiction books, Illustrator, photographer, a journalist for Interface Magazine (a printed magazine about music technology) a teacher and education innovator at the Conservatory Haarlem: electronic music department, a creative coach and so on. All under the name of ‘FRAKnoise’ which means something like ‘undefined scattering’. Notable are his albums ‘the fables of Allard Krijger’, a concept album in the form of a series of gloomy fables,' InterBabylonianMusicals', a videoalbum where he reflects on the meaning, sound and rhythm of language, The Adventures of Werner and Random (The Heisenberg Compensators, a collaboration with Stefan Robbers: Terrace, AcidJunkies), the SF novel ‘the adventures of Wonk Dakdekker or Hans Houtvinger, and the picturebooks ‘mermaid in tomatosaus’ and ‘the Anus of Anna’.

Allard Krijger is also a thereminist, and since the theremin is considered to be the very first electronic musical instrument, invented 100 years ago today he wil present this instrument, its history, its use and its unique sound. This talk will also touch the history and development of electronic music and musical instruments in general, and the reflection of the spirit of time on these developments. To illustrate the uniqueness of the Instrument he will play a few pieces as well. Afterwards the public can have a try at this daunting difficult to master instrument.
