Zion Piggot ()
Zion Piggott is a heritage professional, educator, and researcher with a focus on the history and cultural heritage of the Caribbean. In his work, he deals with archives, language, heritage, and identity, with a particular interest in the ways in which knowledge and cultural memory are captured, preserved, transmitted, and made accessible again.
Through their work with archives, Zion investigates which stories are preserved, which perspectives are given space within them, and what role colonial power relations play in what is ultimately perceived as history. They approach archiving from the perspective of the relationship between cultural memory, identity, and the ways in which communities give meaning to their history. Among other things, Zion writes historical and cultural articles in Papiamentu under the pseudonym Piki and is committed to making knowledge accessible to and from Caribbean communities, with a special focus on the role of their own language.
