Carlito (NL)

Born in Suriname and raised in Haarlem, Carlito has been part of Amsterdam’s underground music culture for more than three decades. His connection to club music began on the dance floor, shaping the feeling and instinct he would later bring behind the decks. From his first residency at Club Havana at nineteen to long-standing residencies at Melkweg and De Kroon—where he was the first resident DJ and later Supperclub and W Amsterdam, Carlito has developed a sound rooted in Soul, Jazz, Funk, Disco, Hip-Hop and House. Broken Beat, UK Garage and 2-Step are also part of his musical story, reflecting a curiosity that has never stayed within one genre.Alongside his brother Urvinson, he formed Brothers in Harmony, combining DJ sets with live musicians. Over the years, he has shared line-ups with artists including Atjazz, Osunlade, Karizma, Alton Miller, Armand van Helden, MJ Cole and Zed Bias. These names are only part of a much wider story, shaped by the many artists, musicians and friends he has played alongside and brought together through his events. As the driving force behind SubTone, founded in 2006, Carlito has created a home for soulful underground music and lasting musical relationships. Its story lives in the nights, the friendships and the people who keep coming back for the music.Whether playing an intimate room or a full dance floor, his approach remains personal: follow the music he believes in, feel the room and let the connection grow.Music with soul is his compass.
