Ben Sheppee (GB)

Artist

Ben Sheppee (b. 1978, Bristol, UK) is a visual artist based in London whose work sits at the intersection of abstract typography, moving image, and large-scale public presentation. He treats alphabets as cultural artefacts that evolve, fragment, and recombine over time, drawing on research into historical and endangered writing systems from across the globe.

He has lived and worked in California, Japan, and France, and currently works from his studio in London's Design District. In 2003 he founded Lightrhythm Visuals, a pioneering platform that published 240 films by more than 70 artists from five continents. In 2018 he founded Observatory, offering art direction to brands and cultural organisations through experiential content.

His fine art practice focuses on creating accessible visual experiences that invite broad audiences to engage intuitively, without reliance on narration or explanation.
