Dr. Alexander Genevsky (NL)

Speaker (Erasmus University Rotterdam)

Dr. Alex Genevsky is an Associate Professor of Consumer Psychology and Consumer Neuroscience at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology and Affective Neuroscience from Stanford University, where he studied how thought and emotion interact to shape human behavior. His research combines behavioral experiments, market-level data analysis, and neuroscience methods, including brain imaging (e.g. fMRI, EEG) and eye-tracking, to explore the drivers of consumer preference and choice. His work has shown how shared affective and neural responses can forecast large-scale outcomes like crowdfunding campaigns or the popularity of media content.

Dr. Genevsky’s work applies tools from psychology, neuroscience, and marketing to address questions about what we can learn from studying the brain, above and beyond traditional methods such as survey measures or observed behavior alone. A central theme of his work is the use of neural data to better understand and predict market behavior, addressing questions with real-world implications for business, economics, and public policy. He is also deeply interested in how social interaction and community building shape decision-making, exploring how connections between individuals can amplify emotional responses and impact shared experiences.
