Nikhil Chinapa is a dance music evangelist and entrepreneur. His pioneering work over the past 15 years, has resulted in him becoming the most recognisable face of India's burgeoning dance music scene. An architect by profession, he started his career as a radio host in Bangalore and then moved to Mumbai in 1997 to join MTV India as a presenter. 17 years later he is still one of the channel's most recognised on-air icons.
As a popular VJ, Nikhil got to spend a lot of time around his first love, music. In 2001, a conversation between friends resulted in the launch of Submerge â€” India's first, and now largest Indian Electronic Dance Music collective in India.
In 2007 he co-founded Goa's Sunburn festival and after growing it into one of Asia's leading dance music brands, parted ways with it in 2013. He then went on to partner with Viacom 18 in India to co-found Vh1 Supersonic, Goa's brand new beach music festival.Â
He currently functions as Vh1 Supersonic's Festival Curator and when the mood overtakes him, DJs on weekends at India's best clubs. He also hosts a weekly online radio show "Together with Nikhil Chinapa" which features the week's best dance music releases, across genres.
