For three days, Amsterdam City Hall becomes a home for the people, sounds and ideas that shape Amsterdam after dark.
Music, light, food and art come together in a setting that belongs to the city as much as it belongs to the people who inhabit it. A temporary and custom-built world where familiar faces meet new perspectives and where Amsterdam's creative night culture is celebrated without translation.
Rooted in Amsterdam yet open to the world, Motie celebrates the city's creative spirit during its most international week.
Curious by nature, uncompromising in taste, and welcoming to everyone willing to discover something new.

About Motie ADE
The former municipal service desks of Amsterdam City Hall becomes a meeting place for Amsterdam’s creative ecosystem. Music, food and art come together in a custom-built world. From Amsterdam, for Amsterdam.
At the centre of the stage sits Helios, a kinetic audiovisual installation by Heleen Blanken.Each evening, Helios takes on a different musical interpretation. Young Marco ft. Jonny Nash, Oceanic and Gizem - artists known for moving dance floors - step into slower, more atmospheric territory for a series of one-off performances.
As an official part of ADE Arts & Culture, the program extends beyond music, featuring newly commissioned and previous work by interdisciplinary Ukrainian artist Sophia Bulgakova, curated by Nxt Museum. Bulgakova’s practice connects personal experience with wider political realities, exploring how art and activism can exist side by side. Her works Spomyny (2024) and Sensitive Guidelines (2026) will pull the audience into the passage.
As the hours pass, the former bureaucratic hallway starts to shift. What was once a place for forms and numbers becomes a place to wander into and experience the full width of Amsterdam night culture.

Motie takes place at the Stopera, Amstel 1.
The building itself was the subject of intense public and political debate. Its design, costs and location were widely contested, and protests against its construction were so significant that the name Stopera also became associated with the slogan 'Stop Opera'.
Designed by architects Wilhelm Holzbauer and Cees Dam, the building combines two distinct worlds: the solidity of City Hall and the openness and grandeur of the ballet. Its architecture reflects this duality, and brings civic life and cultural expression into one shared space.
Both that history and the Stopera’s current role as a meeting point for civic, social and cultural life, makes it a perfect home for Motie. By building a temporary cultural world, firmly rooted in Amsterdam's night culture, Motie creates new encounters to experience for the first time this ADE.

Festival FAQ
ADE Festival tickets are sold individually by the festival event organizers, but you’ll also be able to purchase them through the ticket links on the event pages on our website here.
Not to worry! Make sure to contact the event (or their ticketing provider) you are visiting as soon as possible with as many details about your order; name, email address, amount of tickets, etc. Once they've recovered your order, the tickets can be resent to your email.

Most festival events have an age limit of 18+ (and sometimes even 21+ or 23+). These are Dutch governmental rules which state that below the age of 18 you are not allowed to enter a club.
Please double-check the promoter's or venue's website to be sure you can access the event!
Yes, the ADE Pro Pass grants you access to all ADE official festival events.
Be aware though that there are over 1,200 events during ADE that you can enter with the Pro Pass wristband and that ADE cannot guarantee access. There is a limited capacity that each venue can take into account for Pro Pass holders. This means for some of the more crowded events you have to arrive early. Once capacity is reached, we will go over in a full-for-now policy. The festival event organizer will decide when and if more people are allowed to go in.
The ADE Pro Pass is the perfect fit if you are planning on enjoying the combination of day and night events. If you want guaranteed access to a particular festival event, we advise you to get a single festival ticket instead.
We dance together, so please be mindful of yourself and each other. We expect an open attitude from our visitors towards other guests, regardless of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion and age. If you see or experience any unwanted attention, harassment or behavior of any kind that makes you uncomfortable, please speak out and notify staff.
