a Sense of Place presents: Soft Signals
Soft Signals is the sound of a room, played back inside it. Nisham Olakara of Kerberos and Styx Studios spent months recording a Sense of Place, a coffee bar in a 1930s garage on the Willemsstraat: the pull of an espresso shot, the hiss of the steam wand, the way the old garage holds a note. He turned those recordings into a spatial audio piece. On the Friday of ADE he performs it live, in the room where it was made.
The day has three parts.
9:00 to 11:00. Omakase 'Beyond', Soft Signals edition. Our coffee omakase: a sequence of courses built from coffees that never reach the regular menu, served for one morning while Nisham performs live. Six seats. Reservation only, at asenseofplace.nl.
13:00 to 14:00. Soft Signals, open door. The piece performed live, over a coffee. Free entry, seated, while the seats last.
14:00 to 18:00. Three selectors on vinyl, one after the other.
14:00 to 15:30. To be confirmed.
15:30 to 17:00. Beastie. Learned his ear on London internet radio and has spent the last ten to fifteen years digging through funk, disco, house and Detroit techno. Now based in Barcelona and still close to the electronic scene, he plays vinyl only. For ADE he strips it back: no dancefloor to serve, just a selector's set of jazz, funk and experimental records.
17:00 to 18:00. Alexcel. From Riga, more than ten years behind the decks. He closes the day the way this room likes it: warm, deep house played slow, long blends, a patient build, some of it his own productions. Recent sets have taken him from Riga to Tokyo.
Free entry all day, except the omakase. Seated. Coffee is served as on any Friday.
Hi-Fidelity Coffee
A specialty coffee bar in the Jordaan where the sound is part of the cup. Coffee treated as gastronomy, records on rotation through a bespoke hi-fi system, natural wines chosen with the same eye as the beans, and a multi-course coffee omakase at the peak of it all.
During ADE we are a Friends of ADE venue and the city's daytime listening room: seated, coffee-led sessions with selectors, artists and conversations, a calm place to reset between meetings and nights.
But there's always something new to discover every week: a different menu, a new record, a seasonal roaster you won't find anywhere else.

Festival FAQ
ADE Festival tickets are sold individually by the festival event organizers, but you’ll also be able to purchase them through the ticket links on the event pages on our website here.
Not to worry! Make sure to contact the event (or their ticketing provider) you are visiting as soon as possible with as many details about your order; name, email address, amount of tickets, etc. Once they've recovered your order, the tickets can be resent to your email.

Most festival events have an age limit of 18+ (and sometimes even 21+ or 23+). These are Dutch governmental rules which state that below the age of 18 you are not allowed to enter a club.
Please double-check the promoter's or venue's website to be sure you can access the event!
Yes, the ADE Pro Pass grants you access to all ADE official festival events.
Be aware though that there are over 1,200 events during ADE that you can enter with the Pro Pass wristband and that ADE cannot guarantee access. There is a limited capacity that each venue can take into account for Pro Pass holders. This means for some of the more crowded events you have to arrive early. Once capacity is reached, we will go over in a full-for-now policy. The festival event organizer will decide when and if more people are allowed to go in.
The ADE Pro Pass is the perfect fit if you are planning on enjoying the combination of day and night events. If you want guaranteed access to a particular festival event, we advise you to get a single festival ticket instead.
We dance together, so please be mindful of yourself and each other. We expect an open attitude from our visitors towards other guests, regardless of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion and age. If you see or experience any unwanted attention, harassment or behavior of any kind that makes you uncomfortable, please speak out and notify staff.
