State OFFF (NL)
Operating under the musical alias State OFFF, Zimbabwean artist Babusi Nyoni (b. 1988) fuses global club rhythms into hardware-driven audio-visual performances. Based in the Netherlands, he extends his broader conceptual framework into the realm of electronic music, using intelligent systems to decode the raw energy of the dancefloor. Beyond music, Nyoni is a multi-disciplinary artist and creative technologist whose practice explores the reciprocal feedback loops between human experience and technological mediation. Through interactive experiences, immersive performances, and installations, his work consistently examines how technology perceives and translates our physical realities.
Nyoni’s artistic trajectory has long challenged algorithmic authority and digital representation. His practice intersects personal archives with machine learning to elevate marginalised narratives, and utilises interactive installations to invite the public to actively shape more inclusive visual cultures. His recent work interrogates synthetic corporeality through movement and dance, using the human body to question and ground the concept of machine embodiment.
Whether performing as State OFFF, developing computer vision for medical diagnosis, or decentralising virtual spaces through movement, Nyoni's overarching mission remains consistent: shifting technology away from passive observation and back toward human intimacy.
