Megan van Strien (NL)

Megan graduated from the University of Amsterdam in 2025 with a Master's degree in Information Law, including a semester at the University of Bergen in Norway, where she studied European copyright and data protection law. Her Master's thesis explored trademark law and upcycling in the fashion industry, while her Bachelor's thesis looked at how consumers 'pay' with their personal data for access to social media.

But long before she was reading case law, you could find her on the dance floor. From the age of six to nineteen, she competed in hip-hop and street dance battles, and by twelve she had also claimed her spot behind the sewing machine. Creativity runs through her veins, so it's no surprise that she eventually found a way to bring her passions and her legal career full circle.

Since November 2025, Megan has been working as an entertainment lawyer at Backstage Legal, specialising in copyright, neighbouring rights and trademark law. As a dancer, she knows first-hand how the creative industry works, and that's exactly what makes her the bridge between creators and the legal world they work in. Megan keeps a close eye on developments in AI, copyright and trademark law, as well as the latest fashion trends and her newest hobby: crochet patterns.
