FROM THE UNDERGROUND — 1994 TO NOW

With Spanish roots and raised in the Netherlands, Julian Ruiz became part of Amsterdam’s underground rave scene in the early 1990s and started performing as a DJ in 1994.

Over the years, Julian played at clubs and events including the infamous Fun Factory, Club 114 and the Megafestatie, and was a regular guest DJ for ID&T.

His musical repertoire has always been broad, ranging from Oldskool House, Acid and Happy Hardcore to Techno. When the Dutch house scene evolved into the Hardcore Gabber era, Julian chose to focus more on smaller clubs, private parties and intimate underground events, while staying true to his love for the sound and energy of early house music.

With the renewed popularity of Oldskool House, Julian’s distinctive sound and years of experience have brought a new wave of bookings. Supported by a growing and loyal following, his schedule continues to expand, including appearances at the legendary Full Moon Productions events.

Today, Julian brings more than three decades of experience behind the decks into a new generation of underground electronic music.

His musical journey has taken him through Oldskool, Acid, Happy Hardcore, Hardstyle, Club House, Tech House and Psy-Trance, with his current focus firmly on Techno and Hard Techno.

His sets combine the raw energy and attitude of the early rave scene with a harder, a bass and Acid sound. Whether playing an intimate underground party or a packed dancefloor, Julian focuses on energy, atmosphere and keeping the connection with the crowd at the heart of his sets.

From 2019 until October 2023, Julian hosted his own radio show on Amsterdam Most Wanted FM, together with his wife, sharing their passion for electronic music with listeners.

Julian is currently a resident DJ for Ondergronds Verzetje, performing at events including Love Factory, White Moon and Full Moon.

Three decades after stepping behind the decks for the first time, Julian remains driven by the same thing that started it all: a genuine love for underground electronic music and the dancefloor.
