An Vandevorst (BE)

An Vandevorst is a Belgian fashion designer, DJ and Creative Advisor at Polimoda, based between Antwerp and Florence. Together with Filip Arickx, she founded A.F.VANDEVORST in 1997, developing an artistic universe at the intersection of fashion, visual art, performance, film, music and scenography.
Over more than two decades, A.F.VANDEVORST was conceived as more than a fashion label. Its unmistakable visual language, shaped by religion and ritual, the Red Cross, military and medical uniforms, equestrian culture, armour, lingerie and the human body, constantly moved between opposites: protection and vulnerability, discipline and desire, strength and intimacy.

In 2020, Vandevorst and Arickx stepped away from the traditional fashion calendar to continue working more freely across different disciplines.

Music has been a constant presence in Vandevorst’s life and creative vocabulary. At the age of fourteen, she was drawn to the raw energy of the hard rock, new wave and punk scene in her hometown, later discovering Oi, reggae, dub, hip-hop and trip-hop, as well as trance and new beat. Today, these influences feed directly into her DJ sets, in which she continues to explore the interplay of opposites. Layering traces of the music of her youth with dark electronic sounds, hypnotic rhythms and a strong sense of sensual femininity, her sets move through contrasts to create a deeply personal sonic language, haunting as much as it is seductive.

Alongside her own creative work, Vandevorst is Creative Advisor at Polimoda in Florence, where she shares her experience and artistic perspective with a new generation.

Across fashion, art, music and education, she is driven by a continuing interest in identity, transformation and the tension between opposing forces.
