Akwasi (NL)

Akwasi Owusu Ansah is a Dutch rapper, actor, poet, and broadcasting executive of Ghanaian Ashanti descent. He is best known by his first name, Akwasi, which refers to Sunday, the day he was born, traditionally associated with a “Sunday child.” He also refers to himself as Anton Karel Willem Anton Simon Isaac, the spelling of his first name according to the Dutch telephone alphabet.

Akwasi first rose to prominence as a member of the hip-hop group Zwart Licht and later established himself as an influential solo artist. Alongside his music career, he is active in theatre, writing, and social activism.

In 2020, he founded Omroep ZWART, a national public broadcaster dedicated to promoting greater representation, diversity, and inclusion in Dutch media. He is known for his outspoken views on racism and social justice and has become an important voice in the Dutch public debate.
