Building Your Safety Rider with Jenny Cara & DEBORAH X
Speaker: Jenny Cara (Artist, Activist), DEBORAH X (Artist)
Level: Foundation
Working as a touring artist can be intense. Long travel days, unfamiliar spaces and high-pressure environments can take a toll, and having your needs met can make all the difference in how you show up and perform. A safety or inclusivity rider is a document that helps artists and creatives communicate those needs clearly and make sure the spaces they work in are safe and supportive. Just like your technical rider, this is a rider to be met.
In this workshop, artists Jenny Cara and DEBORAH X will introduce the concept of this additional rider and provide the tools you need to create one of your own. Together you will reflect on topics like gender, race, neurodivergence, sobriety, parenting and accessibility, and explore how to communicate affiliated needs in a constructive way to venues, promoters and festivals.
This hands-on session gives you time to start writing your own rider, ask questions and leave with a practical draft you can use in your future bookings. Perfect for artists, performers and music professionals who want to advocate for themselves and help create safer, more inclusive spaces in the industry.
Please note that you will need to pre-register for this session so we can shape the content around your input. Capacity is limited, so only sign up if you plan to attend in person. Registration will close once all spots are filled.
