Next-Gen Collaboration: How Artists are Breaking New Ground with Nature
Speakers: Madame Gandhi, El Búho, Natural Symphony
Moderator: Greg Cochrane
This conversation and live show-and-tell asks: how can co-creation with nature challenge the dominant stories and ways we think about our environment? And what forms of listening can we use to truly hear nature’s voice?
What is this program about?
Join us to hear from the artists embracing the infinite opportunity of making music with nature. These trailblazers are pioneering new sounds, but also fresh ways of thinking about impact in their work. You’ll hear music and insights from Natural Symphony, Madame Gandhi, and El Búho who are each developing new sonic pathways to connect audiences with the living world.
All artists will showcase a glimpse of their work in live show-and-tell performances:
▶ Natural Symphony harnesses the bio-rhythms of plants through custom-built sensors and live signal processing, translating electrical impulses into evolving soundscapes that expose the hidden intelligence of the natural world.
▶ Madame Gandhi’s most recent release samples the sounds of glaciers and pebbles recorded in Antarctica, blending them with spoken word and percussive electronics to explore nature as a collaborator — with streaming royalties directed back to environmental causes via EarthPercent.
▶ El Búho initiated a collaborative compilation that pairs the calls of migratory birds with artists from across the Americas whose own paths mirror those of the species they interpret, weaving together stories of journeys, of hardship, of longing and of belonging, through sound.
Who is this program for?
This program is for artists, record labels and curators seeking ways to incorporate more natural elements and climate storytelling into their sound and programming. It’s also relevant for industry leaders and policy makers trying to understand the role of art and music in climate discourse. This program is part of ADE Green, and can be accessed with an ADE Pro Pass or ADE Green Day Pass.
