A History of Hardcore through Vinyl
Speakers: Holly Dicker (Journalist & Author), Leviathan aka Tellurian (Artist & Label Manager, Mokum Records), Gysèle (Artist & Founder, Hard Attack) HyperLili (Artist, Hyperwaves)
Level: Foundation
Hardcore is more than just music. It is rebellion, community and pure energy distilled into sound. Since its birth in the late 80s, hardcore has given a voice to generations of ravers and built a culture that refuses to fade away.
In this special vinyl-led session, we gather with author and journalist Holly Dicker, Michel Klaassen of Mokum Records, DJ Gysèle and HyperLili to explore what hardcore means to them personally and to the culture as a whole, guiding you through the history of hardcore through music.
Each guest will play a carefully chosen record, from formative classics to label-defining releases and modern breakcore cuts, sharing the stories behind their selections and how these tracks shaped their connection to hardcore. Together we will trace the sonic range of the genre, from techno and tekno to rave, gabber, psycore and breakcore, and reflect on its lasting social and cultural impact.
This is a session for anyone who loves hardcore or is curious about its history, its future and why it continues to inspire contemporary sounds. Sit back and enjoy an hour of hardcore education!
