Sandberg Institute x H’ART Museum x Opera Forward Festival
Who knew that opera and electronic music are a perfect combination? We did! Re:master Opera is coming to you with a unique music experience that will unravel the hidden spaces between music, image and text. Join us in and discover how the combination of electronic music, the human voice and theatrical imagination can elevate us to new consciousness.
Supported by the Opera Forward Festival of the Dutch National Opera and the H’ART Museum, a group of 13 masters students from Sandberg Institute will create a new short operatic performance revolving around the historic character of Julius Cesare and the characters around him. Inspired by the exhibition about Cesare at the H’ART Museum that tells the life story of the Roman military leader, politician, statesman, and writer; the dictator from whom the title 'emperor' is derived, who fell for Cleopatra, and brutally subjugated large parts of present-day Europe under his authority.
The musical departure-point for this new creation is the work of Amsterdam based Turkish Electronic composer Elif Murat (winner of the Grachtenfestival 2023 composition commission) who’s music is driven by the desire to explore the full range of human emotion and experience through the world of sound.
H’ART Museum is a global art collective that brings art and narratives from all over the world to Amsterdam, presenting them in new and unexpected ways. In the autumn of 2023, the museum presents the very first solo exhibition in the Netherlands about Gaius Julius Caesar (100 - 44 BC) in collaboration with two Italian museums, Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Museo Nazionale Romano, as well as numerous museums in Germany and the Netherlands.
