Youssou N'Dour & Super Étoile de Dakar

Youssou N'Dour & Super Étoile de Dakar

Youssou N'Dour, the global star from Senegal, gives a performance in the Great Hall of the Concertgebouw with his band Super Étoile de Dakar. N'Dour's most recent album, out November 2021, is Mbalax. Mbalax is a (dance) music style from West Africa with a completely unique sound, created by the combination of traditional Senegalese singing and percussion with jazz, soul, funk and pop. As the most successful mbalax artist, Youssou N'Dour is largely responsible for the immense popularity of this genre.

Youssou N'Dour is perhaps best known to the Dutch public for his collaboration with Peter Gabriel on In Your Eyes from 1986. And of course the hit single 7 Seconds with Neneh Cherry. In addition, he won a Grammy, composed an opera, and wrote the official anthem of the 1998 FIFA World Cup. In 2012, he ran for president of Senegal and later became his country's Minister of Culture and Tourism. Youssou is also a committed human rights activist. He will be joined tonight on the stage of the Great Hall by the star musicians of Super Étoile de Dakar.

Festival FAQ

Yes. After one online and one daytime festival, we are fully gearing up for a full ADE 2022 festival program!

The latest Dutch press conference mandates that clubs, venues and indoor events are forced to close between 00:00 and 06:00 CET. This means ADE is preparing to shift it's events to daytime. Over the coming days, the ADE team and the Amsterdam city council are examining the details of the new regulations for each type of event within the total ADE offering.

Also, all events need to have a COVID-health-check prior to the event.

If you are planning a stay in the Netherlands then be aware that you must follow the Dutch advice and rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please follow the advice of your government and check the Dutch guidelines before planning to travel.

For (individual) festival tickets make sure to check out our program and simply add tickets to your basket as you explore all events.

Tip: Filter the program by "Show only events with available tickets" to get a quick view.

We dance together, so please be mindful of yourself and each other. We expect an open attitude from our visitors towards other guests, regardless of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion and age. If you see or experience any unwanted attention, harassment or behavior of any kind that makes you uncomfortable, please speak out and notify staff.

Please keep in mind: we love being your annual host, therefore, we would like to ask you to enjoy responsibly.

ADE is proud partner of the Celebrate Safe campaign.
