Where The City Can’t See by Liam Young

Sweet Harmony Productions provide this exclusive online screening to ADE 2020. Liam Young’s work explores the increasingly blurred boundaries within the film, fiction design, and storytelling.

The film is set in the dystopian future of Detroit (the home of rave culture) where Google Maps, urban management, and CCTV surveillance are not only mapping our cities but running them.

Liam Young uses new technologies of image-making, including drones and laser scanners to narrate city life and this movie is the first-ever fiction film shot entirely using laser scanning technology.

Never forget the importance of architecture. Remember that abandoned warehouse spaces gave birth to acid house music in Detroit, house music in Chicago and hip hop in New York.

These “post industrial containers” have contributed to our lives more than the new glassy, flashy architecture that springs up around us every day
