The past five years STEIM’s Fedde ten Berge and Jesse Meijer have been working on The Pentacle 15.3 Surround Sound System. ‘The Pentacle’ is a powerful high fidelity mobile speaker system consisting of 15 self-designed loudspeakers and 3 self-designed subwoofers. The sound spatiality of The Pentacle is controlled the same way you control an audio signal. This means The Pentacle sound spatialization is absolutely in sync with your audio and compatible with any daw or modular environment.
The Pentacle is based and maintained at STEIM in Amsterdam. Tens of Artists have been developing live performances and sound art experiences especially for The Pentacle during a residency at STEIM. STEIM (STudio for Electro-Instrumental Music) is an independent electronic music center founded in 1969 which has been supporting an international community of experimental electronic performers, musicians, and visual artists, in developing unique instruments for their work for several decades.
Boy van Ooijen
Generative melodies, fast breakbeats, detuned synthesizers, subby basslines, broken bicycle grooves, and a little bit of nostalgia for the 90’s rave culture performed with a drumkit.
Fedde ten Berge
Fedde ten Berge will do a live performance in which architectural sound structures evolve through complex rhythms, drones and melody lines. He'll be using his self build electronic music setup. Among other instruments, the setup contains the PRP Voyager that was developed in collaboration with Ward Slager. The PRP is based on Fedde's pseudo-random pulse algorithms. The PRP-voyager is a beast and has been given 6 pseudo-random pulse generators all on separated outputs. It has build-in audio synced specialization control for The Pentacle 15.3.
Görkem will perform his performance piece “ARMonic”, developed during his studies at the Institute of Sonology & STEIM. The piece is an improvised performance with a DIY wearable interface, gives the ability to shape prepared materials as well as live-samplings in real-time. Recently ARMonic joined with the Pentacle this brings a new and unique dimension to the piece and allows exploring a new way of expression together with the audience taking part within the circle.
Synthaclaus is the band name of synthesist Frank Baldé and drummer/percussionist Alex Brajkovic. They perform live with analog synthesizer machines, drums and processed percussion, combining different musical approaches ranging from ambient textures to heavily sequenced rhythmic bursts.
*Please bear in mind that ADE Sound Lab tickets receive priority access. In case there are still a few seats available ten minutes before the session, we will open the doors for ADE Card holders.
