Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger: Virtual Worlds & Live Music's Future

Earlier this year, one of the biggest names in gaming made headlines for hosting one of the largest virtual concerts yet: one artist, beamed out to millions around the world, all in a single afternoon. A show anyone, anywhere in the world could join and participate in, by virtue of the virtual world they were navigating and sharing. But this wasn't a new concept. Since their inception, virtual worlds have enabled connection and shared experiences on a massive scale, often with music as their focal point: take as one example the live shows pioneered in the game Second Life, featuring acts like Suzanne Vega and Duran Duran. And with more vendors than ever in the space competing for this one aspect of social experience - virtual shows - it would seem we're at a turning point for technology and music in general: a new era of immersion, gamification, and social connection on an unprecedented scale, made possible by virtual world games and virtual reality. In this talk from Linden Lab, makers of Second Life and Sansar more recently, you'll dive deep into virtual worlds and what they mean for the concerts of tomorrow.
