Beyond the Label

In the streaming world, the job of a label has become so much more than simply packaging and marketing musicians' tracks. YouTube channels especially aren't just a shop window, they become destinations for fans, part of the daily cultural experience, and a place to experience more than just music, indeed more than just music video. A label now needs to create its own programming: discussion, live recordings, visual art, anything is fair game when it comes to the attention economy. For this panel, we have two of the very biggest dance music brands – Spinnin' Records and Monstercat – whose YouTube subscribers each total in the millions, to talk about how they reached this stage, what they're doing right now, and how they see the future of multimedia content to keep those voracious fans engaged.
