Dive into the Buma Music in Motion x ADE program

Tuesday, 04 October 2022
Buma Music in Motion is the largest conference on music in film, games, advertising, and television in Europe and is part of this year's ADE Pro Conference. With the motto 'Where music and media converge', Buma is committed to deliver an extensive program with workshops, networking sessions, and keynotes hosted by the most forward-thinking speakers. Start navigating the program and see where you'll be on ADE Wednesday.
Film & TV score

Buma acts as the Dutch collecting society for composers and music publishers and has a large network of experts on these subjects. They're inviting Stranger Things composers Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein to give a Keynote Speech on how they compose an original soundtrack that keeps their audience on the edge of their seat for four seasons. Another highlight for those who are looking to learn from some of the biggest names around is the panel 'Crossing Over: From Club to Screen' with Eelke Kleijn and Anna Meredith. What inspires them to compose for film in stead of making electronic music for clubs? The duo tells you all about it.

Tap into the mind of the most recent winner of the Buma Oeuvre Award Multimedia and composer, producer, and that of moderator Laurens Goedhart during the panel 'Deconstructing the Soundtrack: with Fons Merkies'. Together, they decompose the soundtrack of the family picture Storm: Letters van Vuur, in order to demonstrate the connection between sound, music, image and story.

Craft, Innovation, and tech

Forward-thinking means not only looking into what's big and happening now, it's about creating a solid plan for the future as well. BMIM's program dives into topics like The Metaverse, music in videogames, and connections beyond the screen, and makes them comprehensible for anyone interested.

Join the panel 'Metaverse and Immersive Audio: Future of Composing Music for Media' and let one of BMIM's own Rick van Dunn (Jonathan Hendrickx), and Richard Burki (Future Phonic Studios), and Katherine Rodgers (a/o Water & Music) guide you through the opportunities for immersive sound, music in The Metaverse, spatial sound, and more. Afterwards you can experience the possibilities of The Metaverse in the live demo provided by Enversed.

Music in Video Games

The man behind the soundtracks of Killzone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West tells you all about how music plays a vital role in the world of video games. Join the panel 'Bringing Video Games Alive with Music - Learn from Joris de Man', or learn from heavyweights 'Xbox GameStudios and Playstation on the Future of Music in Gaming'.

Sync, Music in Advertising, and Trailers

Position Music’s Vice President of A&R Jake Versluis dives deep into the art of remixing, guides you through his selection process of the best trailer remixes of BMIM's deconstructing contest, and announces the winning remix in real-time during the 'Remix Your Way to LA' panel. Are you curating music for a drama series? During the panel 'Same Song, Different Story - Fox Entertainment and Netflix on their Use of Music', Andy Lykens from Netflix and Katy Gavillet from Fox Entertainment talk about the differences between using music in marketing and using music in content, where sometimes 15 seconds is all you have got.

Entrepreneurship and rights

With four Pop Up Offices ranging from help with Sync rights, Legal advice, knowledge on Writing for Wikepedia, and Music Rights on Tour, BMIM gives you hands-on tools to help you on your way.

Do you need answers to questions like how to approach directors or how to talk about finances? 'You Shoot, I Score' is a comprehensive guide to becoming a composer for film, television, and games, written by composer Karl Heortweard. Join the book presentation at BMIM, or head over to a piece of LA in Amsterdam during the panel 'Time To Go? The Dutch in LA' where Peter Post (Chief Representative, NBSO) and Joep Sporck (NBSO LA) guide you through the dream of making it big as a composer in The States.
