Marcus Lam ()
One of the founder and managing partner of Boomerang Hong Kong, a nightclub that first opened on Halloween 2020. Despite an early pandemic closure, Boomerang quickly rose to fame after reopening, becoming a central force in Hong Kong’s nightlife. The club made history by ranking #98 in DJ Mag’s 2021 Top 100 Nightclubs, the first and only Hong Kong club to do so, and has remained on the list for five consecutive years. Known for staying ahead of trends, Boomerang continuously adapts to the evolving music scene, bringing the latest global sounds to Hong Kong’s partygoers first.
Marcus also founded Distinct Records with a partner (Wilson Liu) from Boomerang, establishing it as a fully independent UK-based record label. The label’s team, composed of experienced European industry professionals with over a decade in music distribution & marketing, operates under Marcus’s guiding principle: “one release every two weeks only.” This approach focuses on supporting artists through consistent exposure and promotion. Distinct Records has already signed tracks from major names, including Grammy-nominated DJ/producer James Carter, Edward Maya, Tungevaag, Sevek, Wasback, and more
Marcus envisions creating an “Asian Alliance” that unites leading clubs from different countries and cities. Currently, 5–6 top venues across Asia are collaborating under this initiative to co-book artists together, organize exclusive regional tours, and share resources. He believes this collective approach represents the future of the industry, emphasizing that everyone should “grow together.”
The Boomerang Group has expanded its vision by blending the founders’ finance industry expertise with their passion for music and entertainment. In recent years, Marcus and his partner have leveraged their long-standing connections in finance to explore new investment opportunities, including acquiring entire catalogue or multiple
tracks from renowned artists worldwide. Their approach challenges the traditional, conservative mindset of Hong Kong’s family offices and VCs, setting a new precedent for cross-industry investment in music assets.
