Maarten Vos (NL)

Artist
Maarten Vos (1987) is a Dutch cellist, composer and producer based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Vos started playing cello at a young age, when he was 4 years old. During his development in music Vos explored next to traditional classical music a big interest in minimalists, contemporary and experimental music. After finishing his bachelor classical cello he graduated cum-laude as Master of Music at the Live Electronics (combining traditional instruments with Electronica) department at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. With the cello as a traditional sounding basis for his work he combines the old sound of his cello with various electronic techniques such as his own build modular synthesizer. Vos’ goal is to fuse these two worlds into a unique whole with a organic result. Vos collaborated with various disciplines in music, dance and film. A selection: He has a duo with multi-instrumentalist Greg Haines, played with the contemporary ensemble Asko Schönberg and worked as a musician, producer and composer with Alex Smoke, Julianna Barwick, Stimming, Joep Beving, Remy van Kesteren, Colin Benders, The Kyteman Orchestra and others. He composed music for contemporary dance company Conny Janssen Danst and scored music for the dutch film The Waterboys from director Robbert Jan Westdijk. Vos currently works from his studio in Kytopia, Utrecht where he produces and records for other musicians, film and his own projects.
