Joachim Marynen (BE)

Speaker (Ampere | Sound Architecture | Chateau De La Chapelle)

Joachim, born in 1977 in Duffel, Belgium, moved shortly after to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where the young punk was raised. His roots are a mixture of two completely different world port cities. Inspired by the global electronic revolution of the late eighties and early nineties, the mentality of his surroundings, and the echoes of his awareness, he founded Sound Architecture in 1999—a concept born out of love and devotion for electronic music.

Throughout the years, Sound Architecture has become a solid and essential fundament for the Dutch dance scene, promoting highly rated and successful concepts such as ON @ Off Corso, Less=More, Cocoon, Never On, The Night of Motor City Detroit, and of course Sound Architecture. He invited and shared decks with highly acclaimed artists such as Sven Väth, Seth Troxler, Ricardo Villalobos, Radio Slave, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Luciano, Dave Clarke, and Loco Dice—to name only a few of an impressive list.

His Sound Architecture Records imprint has had the honor to work with respected artists such as Joris Voorn, Rejected, Alexander Kowalski, Deetron, Shawn Rudiman, and Alexi Delando, and is currently showcasing artists such as Alejandro Vivanco, Felipe Venegas, B Voice, Fausto Messina, BP, and other very talented producers such as Findling and Hreno. Sound Architecture Records also releases Joachim’s own productions and remixes. Under the moniker “Concolor,” Joachim has released several tracks on labels such as Perplex Recording and Sound Architecture.

During his period in Rotterdam he initiated many projects, such as the Rotterdam Electronic Music Festival, was awarded best club night with ON @ Off Corso, initiated the Stubnitz and the Wide Spectrum events. He was also co-programmer for DEMF Detroit, Isle of MTV Europe, Watt Rotterdam, and the Effenaar in Eindhoven.

In 2010 Joachim moved back to Belgium, residing in the beautiful city of Antwerp, where he held a residency at Belgium’s renowned club Café D’Anvers. There he hosted his own Sound Architecture night and gave new artistic input to the Saturday nights. While exploring the Antwerp underground, he soon became part of the Sunday Matinee crew. Besides his Antwerp residencies and international gigs, he also had regular sets at some of Belgium’s most respected clubs such as Fuse, Petrol, and Wood.

In 2015 Joachim opened his own multi-purpose venue in the city centre of Antwerp: a sustainable creative event space called Ampere. Ampere is a brand new, long-anticipated sustainable venue with a unique atmosphere and a touch of Berlin underground, but right in the centre of Antwerp, located under the railroad tracks near Central Station. The first ecological club in Antwerp opened with an amazing performance by Laurent Garnier, and since then has had the honour to welcome returning guests such as Moodymann, Tale of Us, Daniel Bell, Marcel Dettmann, Nina Kraviz, Petre Inspirescu, Rhadoo, DJ Premier, Âme, Move D, Mr. G, Delano Smith, and hostings by partners like Ostgut Ton, Sushitech, Dimensions, Into The Valley, and the legendary R&S Records—just a glimpse of what you can expect within Ampere.

There are four main aspects that make this club unique and earn its ‘ecological label’: water, energy, waste deposit, and construction materials. The usage of recyclable energy is probably one of the most impressive facets of the club. Ampere employs a sustainable energy source to capture the heat people produce while dancing. The heat of 1,000 people can generate energy for an entire week! Furthermore, a floor was installed in collaboration with Energy Floors, a company that produces floors that capture dance movements and recycle them into electricity. The unique sound system and lightshow complement the amazing location situated between the railway tracks leading up to Antwerp Central Station.

As a DJ, he plays a mixture of rhythmic minimal house-orientated, organic tech house, and uplifting, groovy yet experimental techno with deep Detroit influences. Joachim has had the honor to play respected events and festivals such as Dimensions, Tomorrowland, Awakenings, Kazantip, Dance Valley, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Fuse, Sónar Barcelona, Rex Club and Badaboum Paris, Arma and Shanti Moscow, Mixmag, Cocoon, Cadenza, Tresor Berlin, Circle of Love, and Isle of MTV—to name a few.

And the musical journey of love has only just begun.
