Bas Dobbelaer (NL)

Artist
Bas Dobbelaer grew up with electronic music. His father introduced him and his brother Pascal Benjamin to techno by playing compilation CD's from Michel de Hey, Sandrien and John Digweed at an early age and even took him to his first techno party as an underaged boy. "I was smuggled to ‘Earth’ in Paradiso and heard my first live set by Nuno Dos Santos and Patrice Bäumel as '360 soundsystem'. This left such a lasting impression that I was instantly infected by the electronic virus.” After a lot of practice Bas went beyond his bedroom DJ-sessions and started playing and organizing local parties. In 2013 Bas signed up for the prestigious TWSTd DJ Contest, which focusses on DJ's in the Benelux. He convinced the strict jury, which consisted of Tim Schoordijk, Ille Bitch, JP Lonestriker, Max Coppens and Quentin van Honk. Each round he got to experience what it’s like to play for an audience with high expectations. Eventually he made it to the finals (out of 160 participants), where he finished in second place. The youngster went on to play in clubs like Studio 80, Sugar Factory, Podium Victorie, Chicago Social Club, Westerunie, Club Air and the Melkweg. “I want people to be touched by the deep and varied percussion sounds. My mission is accomplished when I see people dancing with their eyes closed.” Artists such as Dixon, Nuno Dos Santos, Mano Le Tough and Tale of Us are huge sources of inspiration. “I admire how they stand behind their music and make no concessions.”
