Andrew James Gustav (GB)

Artist
Andrew James Gustav stands out from the crowd – to those who know, at least. A committed digger and true music lover, his sets showcase a devotion to the craft of DJing that’s paralleled by few of his contemporaries. Andrew’s record collecting career spans well over a decade. His records are defined by their sense of character: in his own words, it’s “music with some sort of twist, something a bit unusual”. Initially under the spell of US house and German minimal, and always influenced by a long-lasting love for UK garage, Andrew’s sound has developed a tougher edge, encompassing vintage tech house, breakbeat, electro and quality techno from all eras and geographies. Andrew’s rise to prominence has been wholly organic, the result of a series of happy accidents. After years of playing records at home or with friends, it was a chance hook-up with London’s Toi Toi crew in 2013 that eventually led to things taking off. The last couple of years have included many memorable parties: trips throughout Europe, including clubbing institutions Robert Johnson, Concrete, Arma17, Hoppetosse and Closer, as well as less storied locations like Slovenia and Estonia; travels to Japan, South America and Canada; and regular gigs alongside scene peers/inspirations/friends Francesco Del Garda, Nicolas Lutz, Onur Ozer and Binh. Andrew currently holds residencies at key London underground parties Undersound and Art of Dark
