Andrew Gould is Head of A&R, North America / SVP at Downtown Music Publishing. Based in Los Angeles for the past 9 years, Andrew manages a staff of 5, overseeing all creative and investment decisions for Downtown’s frontline business. Here Andrew strives to continue the company's legacy of working on music that pushes culture forward. Since taking the position, he signed Cautious Clay, Theophilus London, Chris Barnett (pka CBmix), and husband and wife duo, The War and Treaty. Before Downtown, Andrew was Co-Head of A&R, North America / SVP at BMG (2012 - 2018). Here he provided creative and internal leadership. Additionally, he signed Andra Day. Their work together led to Rise Up, which she performed live on the 2016 Grammy awards. Andra was also nominated for two awards that year. Notably, while at BMG, Andrew placed the multi-format hit song “The Middle” with Zedd, Grey, and Maren Morris. The Middle sat #1 Top 40 Airplay for 6 weeks and received 3 Grammy nominations at the 61st Grammy Awards, including for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Additionally, it was the biggest song on both the US Dance/Mix Show Airplay and the US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs charts in 2018. Andrew placed songs with DJ Snake, Steve Aoki, Tiësto, and The Lost Kings, to name a few. Prior to BMG, Andrew was Senior Director of Creative at EMI Music Publishing (2007 - 2011) where he was an early champion of Sia and worked with hitmakers such as Savan Kotecha, Jim Jonsin, and Toby Gad. Prior to EMI, Andrew was A&R at Epic Records (2003 - 2006). Here he worked alongside the label EVP, making records for priority pop acts. A classically trained pianist, Andrew received his MBA from the Wharton School (‘11)· He is passionate about music advocacy, having soon completed his first term on the LA Chapter Grammy Board, where he Co-Chairs the Advocacy Committee. Andrew has been a featured panelist at Midem, Musexpo, XpoNorth, SXSW, and ASCAP Expo.
