Miss Ray (GB)

Artist & Speaker
Miss Ray was raised in a very musical household on an eclectic mix of Motown, Soul, Tamla, R&B, Reggae, Rock, Jazz and a bit of 70's & 80's Pop. A visit home to her parents still always involves lots of music! At 5 years old Miss Ray started singing, going on to form a band with friends in her teens. In her college years, she teamed up with friend Lolly Holt to write and sing, her Dad would record them on his 8-track studio at home. At 17 the pair wrote and recorded a garage track 'Test the Theory'. Following this, Miss Ray sang in pubs and at charity gigs with her Dad's band 'Between the Lines'. Her musical talents also include playing the flute to Grade 8 standard, playing in an orchestra and for a church choir in her younger years. In her later teenage years Miss Ray discovered House Music and would often spend weekends dancing at clubs around London, with Norman Jay at The Cross being a firm favourite. Ibiza became a summer staple, dancing in the sand became a happy place. Hearing the likes of Beautiful People by Barbara Tucker sparked Miss Ray's love of house music. Seeing how euphoric people looked as a tune dropped, feeling goosebumps because of the vocals and the beautiful souls the music attracted; Miss Ray wanted to create that from behind the decks herself. At 19 a friend bought a set of vinyl turntables which Miss Ray would use to play at house parties and practice at home, continuing to do so for the next 5 years until the turntables were sold. A long break from playing followed until she headed behind the decks again after a difficult time in her life. A good friend knew that Miss Ray wanted to resume playing, so he took her under his wing, gave her a pair of pioneer 400's, which she coupled with an old pioneer mixer and a load of tunes. She practised for hours daily and would often play house parties, getting her first big break from a local night in her home town of colchester in 2017. Miss Ray is now a resident for both Louda and Our House nights that take place in Colchester as well as playing at various other events around Essex. Miss Ray is making her ADE debut this year and will be bringing her eclectic musical influences to the dance floor.
