Matthea de Jong (1981) is director of Tolhuistuin, a cultural hotspot in Amsterdam North with various concert and performance halls, exhibition space, studios, a restaurant and an idyllic garden. Previously part of Shell’s research lab, the culture centre now focuses on the transition to a sustainable and inclusive city. She is also the initiator of Warming Up, a project in collaboration with Impact Makers to involve more people in the climate issue through media and art. She is co-founder of Bureau Burgerberaad for a national citizen assembly about climate policy.
Previously, she set up several organisations and initiatives. She worked on the Movies that Matter Foundation, a platform for film and human rights and on various media projects about migration and racism. For the Cultural Capital Leeuwarden-Fryslan she developed IepenUP, a media and art program on social issues and she set up New Faces, an initiative to link newcomers with a migration background to music festivals.
