Linett Kamala (GB)
Linett Kamala is an interdisciplinary creative on a mission to amplify wellness through her offerings which include: DJ, Artist, Academic, Community Organiser, Creative Producer & Founding Director of LIN KAM ART. She is known as the Notting Hill Carnival 'Sound System Queen', being credited as one of the first female DJs to perform on a sound system in the mid 1980s at the event and is now one of the organisers, serving as Board Director. She founded and puts on the South Kilburn CarniVale, a free community wellness festival in her local neighbourhood in NW London.
2025 marks Linett's 40th year in sound system culture. To mark the occasion she organised the LIN KAM ART Wellness Space - Shrewsbury Road Gardens, a new wellness space within the Notting Hill Carnival which provided an opportunity for guests to engage more deeply with the roots of the event. Linett continues to champion sound system, from organising sound system takeovers at The British Museum and The British Library, putting on an Earth Day event at UAL Central Saint Martin's, to advocating for underrepresented groups, including her her initiatives; LIN KAM ART Young Festival and Carnival Producers, LIN KAM ART Sound System Futures which develops the next generation and Original Sounds Collective - amplifying the presence of women in sound system and globally moving the culture forward. Linett's custom hand-built sound system LIN KAM ART that she designed, is a beautiful fusion of innovation, art, natural materials and powerful sonic technology. Her touring sound system and light installation BASS TONE REGENERATION explores aspects of our relationship to each other and the natural environment. It has toured venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, The British Library, Museum of London and Notting Hill Carnival.
