Jan Detavernier (NL)

Jan Detavernier is a design engineer and artist inspired by nature. This strong connection with Nature grew in the Brazilian Jungle. This was the setting where he ran a bamboo building company with friends. This social project gave many citizens of a poor community the opportunity to learn the skills of building with bamboo by constructing a school and other facilities for the village. After 2 years he came back to Belgium and started creating bamboo structures for festivals and events in Europe and many other countries abroad. His inspiring structures are all based on formations in Nature and got bundled under the name Baboom. Since then he improved connection and construction methods and logistics of working with bamboo. As an bamboo specialist he started this year a collaboration with Bamboologic that is growing Bamboo in the fields in Portugal and other European countries. (www.baboom.be – www.bamboologic.eu).
